Sanford is from the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations Territory. The Raven is one of the West Coast's prominent figures. Sanford's totem depicts the myth of the Raven bringing the Light into the World. So the main Raven you can see holding the ray of the Sun in it's beak, and the two wings on each side are also Raven heads holding the side rays of the Sun. In the Ears of the Raven are two human faces, which are symbolic of the first humans to witness light, being brought into the world.
