Ross Henderson, an acclaimed Kwakwaka’wakw artist, was raised in Alert Bay, British Columbia, inheriting his ancestral artistic talents from renowned family members, such as his great grandfather Gidion Whonnock on his mother’s side and his internationally recognized grandfather Chief Sam Henderson on his father’s side. After learning traditional songs from respected chiefs like Chief Frank Nelson, Ross began carving at a young age alongside his brother Jonathon, continuing to develop his skills over the past two decades. His work includes totem poles, rattles, paddles, and masks, all crafted with the utmost respect for his culture and traditions. Currently residing in Fort Rupert, British Columbia, Ross is dedicated to preserving and restoring his heritage for future generations of the Kwakwala speaking people. This hand-carved, 3-foot red cedar paddle holds a width of 5.1/2 inches and is beautifully adorned with acrylic paint.
