William Cook, an expert Kwakwaka’wakw artist from Alert Bay, BC, hails from a family of renowned artists: his brother, Rande Cook, known for his masterpieces, and his niece, the talented Jazmine McCrimmon-Cook. Under the guidance of his grandfather Gus Matilpi and renowned Kwakwaka’wakw artist Francis Dick, William began carving exquisite jewelry at 19 years old. To this day, jewelry remains the cornerstone of his celebrated artistic career.
