Jim Charlie, born on the Capilano Reserve in North Vancouver, BC, is a Coast Salish artist representing the Squamish Nation. His ancestral territory, from North and West Vancouver to Whistler, BC, is rich in history and culture, passed down to Charlie through his great-grandfather, Jericho Charlie, and his late grandfather Dominic Charlie, an accomplished carver. Jim continues to carry on his family's legacy by creating Northwest Coast art in wood, inspired by traditional Thunderbird and grizzly bear designs. He has studied under Salish carvers Floyd Joseph and Jacob Lewis, as well as the renowned Gitksan artist Phil Janze, and his work has been exhibited at prestigious art fairs and galleries, including a recent commission at the Vancouver International Airport. This panel, measuring 16.3/4"in diameter x 1", showcases Charlie's broad and accessible style, rooted in his deep connection to his heritage.
