As a member of the Haida and Gitxsan Nations, Shawn Edenshaw is a skilled carver and jewelry teacher with a strong background in traditional songs, dances, and protocol. He was influenced early on by his father Jim Edenshaw and other Haida artists such as Garner Moody, Nelson Cross, Bill Reid, and Jim McGuire. He received additional guidance from renowned Haida artist Robert Davidson and his Rainbow Creek Dance Group, which allowed him to share his culture while learning about others. In 2013, Shawn joined the faculty at Vancouver's Native Education College, teaching their Jewellery Arts Program. His expertise was also recognized in the 2019 publication Understanding Northwest Coast Indigenous Jewelry by Alex Dawkins.
